Digital TV gets new date

All remaining full-power tv stations broadcasting in analog will make the switch to all-digital between Now and June 12. As of February 17, 2009, WJAL and about one-third of the nation's TV stations have already gone all-digital.

WJAL Builds new Tower

WJAL builds new tower and mounts hdtv broadcast antenna. Due to the coming changes in Digital broadcasting, WJAL has constructed a new tower for digital only broadcast. The new tower is in the same location atop tuscarora mountain. We also installed a new HDTV broadcast antenna to better serve our veiwers taking our broadcast over the air. Our new high power digital transmitter is currently in the install process. Once completed, WJAL will permanently enter its high power digital broadcast era for veiwers throughout the 4 state area.

 

 

'Deal or No Deal' Rises

Deal Or No Deal (NBCU) rose back to the top of the freshman ranks for the first time in four weeks in the syndication ratings for the week ending Feb. 22. The show increased by 6% to a 1.9 and is now tied with The Doctors which was unchanged. Elsewhere in game shows, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire remained at its season-low 2.4 and is down 17% in season-totals from last year.

 

WJAL Transmitter Burns on Mountain

During the evening hours of January 14, 2009, our transmitter building caught fire. An automated alarm had tripped at 5:45 p.m. that day. Firefighters from 14 diffrent companys responded to help fight the flames. Both our transmitters, secondary control room and the building were completely destroyed. WJAL is currently back on air with a digital signal.
