WJAL – Hagerstown, MD

WJAL makes every effort to include the community as much as possible when it comes to recruiting new personnel, or participating in community events; however, with a very limited staff this is sometimes hard to achieve.  WJAL employees roughly 8 full-time and 1 part-time staff, with most employees handling more than one job responsibility. When a vacancy occurs we do advertise to the community, but with very little staff to begin with, find it more convenient to recruit personnel from employee referrals who, for training purposes, have broadcast in their background.  There are currently 4 people who work out of the office and this does make it difficult to go off and participate in job fairs and community events which would require more than one person to operate the stand at the event.   We do try to participate in school sponsored career days as often as we are asked to do so.  We are continually evaluating the feasibility of utilizing interns for both Master Control and the office, which may help us to participate more frequently in community events.
