Organics Initiative Funding Announced
MORGANTOWN, WV, February 2, 2010—The 2008 Farm Bill provides NRCS with authority to provide organic growers an opportunity to compete for funds through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). The program is directed to growers certified as organic according to the National Organic Program (NOP) and those transitioning to organic production.
The primary focus of the program is to support the implementation of practices which help growers meet the provisions of the statute and the NOP Act. Successful applicants will be required to develop an Organic System Plan before installation of conservation practices to help achieve organic production and certification. Growers already certified as organic are eligible for financial assistance to install practices after they submit their existing plan.
Landowners must have their applications submitted to their local USDA Service Center by close of business on March 12, 2010 to be considered for funding this year. Additional information on the 2010 EQIP Organic Initiative is available at: www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/eqip/.

My name is Mel Aurbach and I am the director and owner of University Summer Residential Weight Loss Camp at Towson University-Maryland. As specified in our camp name, all camps take place at a University. At this time, we are planning to open 5 camps in 5 different States for the summer of 2010. Our goal is to expand to different States until our program is nationwide so we can help as many children and their families in their battle with weight loss.
Our program is comprehensive in that it reaches all phases and components of this problem. We have combined exercise, education and nutrition in proper increments so that the children will not only have a good time at camp but will be taught in a classroom setting by a registered dietitian 3 times a week, in most cases for 6 weeks, on proper nutrition and basic guidelines that will help them succeed.
This is followed up by special menu's created by our head dietitian that the children will enjoy together with the proper portion sizes they should consume. In addition we have set aside 1 hour per week to teach the parents about proper nutrition on campus grounds. If the parents cannot attend the class, a live webinar will be available for them to view on their computer.
I hope you will report our story about this important camp to parents and other groups within your circle.
Please visit our website www.usrwlc.com for more information about our program. If you have any questions about the program please call or email me at your convenience.
